WHY YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE SHOULDN’T DETERMINE YOUR WELL-BEING

business woman with shoulder pain

For many years, I had extended health insurance and never used it.   As soon as I left the corporate world and became a self-employed full-time massage therapist, I lost the perks of having a benefit plan, and quickly realized the value in what I once had.

I was achy, cranky, overworked and stressed out while working in an environment where I promoted relaxation and wellness. I was a walking, talking oxymoron.

I noticed that my clients would come into my treatment room feeling stressed, tense, unable to move and function freely without pain, but when they left, they were relaxed, happy, and positive.  Over time they were able to function better with less or no pain.

I saw what my work was doing for my clients and eventually, I got to the point where I said enough is enough!  I wanted to feel as good as my clients did each time they left my treatment room.  I quickly found an RMT, and I started getting monthly massages, and Wow! what a difference it made.

My muscles felt looser and the constant ache in my neck and shoulders that occasionally caused headaches disappeared. I was getting better sleep at nights, but most of all, I was getting more mental relaxation.  That one hour to relax and not have to do, say or think about anything was gold.

When I think about how great I felt, it reassured me that getting massage therapy was worth the investment.

CAN YOU PUT A PRICE TAG ON YOUR WELLNESS?

To many, massage therapy is a luxury, but it should be a part of every lifestyle.  If you are physically active, massage therapy can help you to release tension that will inevitably develop when you push your muscles to their limits.

If you have a high-stress life or job, massage therapy is an excellent way to destress and mentally escape to allow yourself a moment of peace.

It forces you to relax which can be difficult for individuals with a lot going on.  Even for the average person, massage therapy is a great option to clear your head, regroup and refresh.

The benefits of massage therapy far outweigh the costs, and I’ll never allow a lack of insurance coverage to determine my well being.
